Leaving the class and returning is extremely rude and will not be accepted. If you leave, leave for the day...You have disrupted the class once by leaving DO NOT DO IT AGAIN by returning!

If you can't be still for ninety minutes at a time - maybe you should take a different class...

Please take this class seriously or DROP!

The Mid Term Exam Paper.  We will work in groups in class to prepare the exam paper, but you will write it yourself.

Your research paper’s "WORKING REFERENCES." Use APA and list at least eight (8) college level sources you have already read and will use for your course project. Not Wikipedia (childish), nor blogs, nor other b.s., You should use academic journals, news sources, etc. (Your final Reference List will be longer!) Follow APA format.

Your research paper’s "WORKING THESIS." In one or two sentences, take a stand on your country. Say something worth saying. Focus on the future. This should be close to the thesis you will use in your course project - the main point of your paper! Be prepared to discuss in class.

Your Country Research Paper: (1500 words (ten pages) (body of paper) APA style research paper.) Focusing on the country you have chosen, answer the following questions:

First, briefly describe the recent history of your county (last eight years or so). Explain the impact of the "Arab Spring" on the politics, culture and economics of your country. Looking specifically at the following issues: the role of the Ulema, the ability of the leadership (political party or political elite) to stay in power (or not), the use of government and protester organized violence, the economic and political development (or not) and challenges, what are the prospects for "positive change" (more food, jobs, more political and social rights, transparency, lessen poverty, increase education and healthcare)? Or could that change be something else? Look five years ahead and make predictions about the changes that will occur in your country. Be bold but realistic.

Dual Enrollment board rulings and policies for Faculty, as per College Catalogue descriptions

1.       Attendance:  It is the responsibility of the student to notify the instructor of circumstances which will prevent attendance at any meeting of the class. Students may notify instructors by e-mail or by phone using the number listed on the course syllabus. If the number is not listed, use the number for the department chair listed in the class schedule and ask that the message be forwarded.  Whenever absences in hours exceed the number of hours the class meets per week, the student may be excluded from class by the instructor.

The student is expected to attend every meeting of all classes for which he or she is registered. Attending a class without being registered is contrary to the Los Angeles Community College District rules and cannot be used as the basis for a petition to add a class.  Students who have enrolled for a class and who do not attend or who are late or absent from the first meeting of the class may be excluded by the instructor.  Tardies—three tardies will be considered the equivalent of one hour of absence. A tardy is defined as coming in to class after the class officially begins.

2.       Student Conduct:  Although it is a student’s academic performance that is evaluated in determining grades, student conduct is important in the academic setting. Enrollment in a class may be terminated due to unsatisfactory student conduct, undue disrespect toward an instructor or administrator, or academic dishonesty. Student conduct must conform to LACCD and Los Angeles City College rules and regulations. Violations of such rules and regulations will subject students to disciplinary action. Such violations, include, but are not limited to, the following:

of the college; aiding or inciting another person to breach the peace of the college premises or functions Board Rule 9803.10 Willful disobedience to directions of College officials acting in the performance of their duties.

Board Rule 9803.25  Disorderly Conduct. Conduct which may be considered disorderly includes: lewd or indecent attire or behavior that disrupts classes or college activities; breach of the peace

Board Rule 9803.12  Dishonesty, such as cheating, or knowingly furnishing false information to the College.

Board Rule 9803.18  Assault or Battery. Assault or battery, abuse or any threat of force or violence directed toward any member of the college community or campus visitor engaged in authorized activities.

Board Rule 9803.19  Alcohol and Drugs. Board Rule 9805Interference with Performance of Duties by Employees. Action to cause or attempt to cause, any employee of the Los Angeles Community Colleges to do or refrain from doing, any act in the performance of his/her duties by means of a threat to inflict any injury upon any person or property, is guilty of a public offense.

Board Rule 9805.10  Assault or abuse of an Instructor. Assault or abuse of any instructor employed by the District in the presence or hearing of a community college student or in the presence of other community college personnel or students and at a place which is on District premises or public sidewalks, streets, or other public ways adjacent to school premises, or at some other place where the instructor is required to be in connection with assigned college activities.

Everyone works for the entire class time.

Everyone takes notes.

Everyone is positively engaged and active in the class.

Everyone stays quite when others are talking.

Everyone uses appropriate language, tone and volume.

Of course everyone keeps their hands, feet etc. to themselves.

Every time we form groups, everyone seeks new group members, thus the people in our groups always changes. (No cliques, etc.)

In group presentations, everyone in group must speak at least once.

Everyone must participate in all class activities and in the class itself.

When called on, everyone must respond in good faith with a spoken answer.

Silence = Death.

Non-participation, or unacceptable behavior will result in suspension for that day. The second occurrence of non-participation (or poor behavior) will result in EXPULSION from this class.
