| Welcome to the CLASS (assuming you have done all you needed to do to be in the class) Here are some things to remember about this class: 1.) This is not an "instant class." I have other classes I am teaching and I will answer your email within one week - not that very instant, NOT at 3:30 in the morning when you frantically sent it to me... 2.) It is up to you to do the work. Up to you to communicate with me. Up to you to know when things are due (it is all on the class homepage, assignments page and the schedule Pages). It's Up to you to show up for the final. Up to you to read your emails every week - read your text every week - up to you to do all the work on time - I have heard all the excuses and I accept none of them. Yoda says: "There is no try - either do or not do!" And that puppet is right! So do the work or fail, please DO NOT waste my time with excuses. Do not involve me in your life's drama. Not my job; not my novella... 3.) Stop by my office during office hours or make an appointment to come see me - that is the best way I know you really exist (and are not some USC student...oops - sorry, I digress). I should not meet you for the first time on the day of the final. That would be bad for you - trust me - I have done this online teaching thing since 1999 so I know a little about what it takes to succeed. The successful serious students make the effort to get to know the professor and have the professor get to know the student. They do all the reading and work on time - not at the last minute and then make up some bs about your e-pet or something. Good students stand out because of the quality of their work. But it is always a good idea to help the professor put a face to a name. I will meet you in my office or on campus any time, Mon, - Thurs., (mornings) that I am able, if you make an appointment. 4.) Do not fall behind. The pace of this class is the same as an on campus class but you are all alone - and that means it is all up to YOU. Are you self motivated? Self disciplined? You better learn or you will not do well in online classes. 5.) Work with others. Do your own work, but work with others on the Course Project or any other assignment. Meet in person or online (etudes has a place - there are a million others). DO YOUR OWN WORK. It is really easy to find plagiarism and it makes you look really stupid. I have been teaching college for 20 years and the internet has greatly increased my ability to bust plagiarism. 6.) Mypoliscilab.com work is for extra credit - it is not mandatory, but very helpful. 7.) I don't use eTudes calendar, nor test platform, for reasons that are not worth explaining. I put everything in the Modules Section and I will send you an email announcement every week (I hope). So just send all work via email - like the directions say - if it says "do not send an attachment" and you send one, I will not open it, and you will get a zero (0) points - follow the directions, please. If you have any questions, I'm on campus mon. - thurs., stop by or email me then. meyerjn@lacitycollege.edu
